Beauty Must-Haves

Instead of outfit inspiration today, I'll be sharing my favorite, tried and true beauty products. All of the products posted below I've tested and used for awhile. My beauty routine has definitely gotten more lazy, especially in the past year. Between classes, work, and trying to squeeze in some time for family and friends, I've narrowed down my beauty product selection to the very best and most user- friendly picks!

I do not have an elaborate or time-consuming skincare routine, but I do my best to keep my skin healthy and clean. To me, skincare is super important for makeup when you don't have much time to apply primers, foundation, concealers, powders, etc. Having a healthy base for makeup will ensure a much smoother and faster application. I listed my favorite skincare products before makeup because a solid skincare routine is so much more important than makeup! Additionally, I wanted to mention that good skincare works from the inside out. Healthy eating habits, a good amount of sleep, and regular exercise is the best way to take care of you and your skin.

Although I believe in skincare before makeup, I still have fun playing with different beauty products and creating different looks. I linked my favorite eyeliners and eyeshadow palette below for when you have more time for a more detailed makeup application. Otherwise, I have my quick and basic makeup routine, which consists of foundation (sometimes- I think it's important to let your skin breathe), concealer, eyebrow pencil, and mascara. I don't often use eyeliner and eyeshadow because I have very sensitive eyes, and powder eyeshadow irritates them. I have tried cream eyeshadows because of my super sensitive eyes, but I haven't found any that I truly like. Eye makeup isn't the most important element to me though, I absolutely love lip products, from scrubs to balms to lipsticks. I have probably tried almost every lip treatment set out there, along with tons of glosses and lipsticks. I've linked my most loved lip products below.

I did not include every product that I use, just my favorites that stand out the most. Enjoy!

Cetaphil Oil Control Face Wash: I've tried tons of cleansers from Proactiv to Mary Kay, but this is the only one I've ever stuck with. I use it twice a day- every morning before I apply makeup and every night before bedtime.

Shiseido Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream: I've always had naturally super dark circles under my eyes, and I've never found any creams that have helped in the slightest. I stumbled across this eye cream at Tj Maxx and now I'm hooked! It not only moisturized the sensitive skin around my eyes, but it actually brightens up my dark circles more than any other product I have tried. I definitely recommend this product.

Benefit Matte-Rescue Primer: I have very oily skin, so it's necessary for me to use a primer under my foundation to help it stay on and to combat shine. I love how this primer makes my foundation go on smoother and to keep my skin looking matte for hours (although I've never found anything that keeps my face from looking oily for a whole day, so I'm always open to suggestions!). The trick to this primer is to apply it right after washing your face  and applying moisturizer after this primer and before foundation. Doing this helps it suck up any extra oil.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation: I've always used powder foundations until I found this liquid foundation. I've also tried this foundation by Makeup Forever after hearing how great it was, but I didn't like it as much as Tarte's foundation. It stays on so well and doesn't feel heavy or greasy on my skin. I also appreciate how Tarte uses natural ingredients that nourish your skin and add sunscreen into their foundation.

Mary Kay Translucent Powder: I absolutely love this translucent powder for setting my makeup. I do not apply it after all of my makeup is on, but I dust it over my face after I apply my foundation, concealer, and eyebrow pencil. It helps combat shine and makes my makeup last longer.

Tarteist  Pro Palette: Although I'm not a huge eyeshadow fan, I've tried a few Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes, and this one is by far superior. The consistency of the eyeshadows are much better, smoother, and last way longer than the eyeshadows by Urban Decay, in my opinion. I also love how there are so many different looks that can be created with this particular palette.

Mary Kay Lash Lengthening Mascara: I'm super picky about mascara mainly because it's often the only eye makeup I use, and I swear by this certain mascara by Mary Kay. I've tried tons and tons of drugstore mascaras, higher-end mascaras, and all of the other mascaras by Mary Kay, and this is the only one I will use. It also comes in a waterproof version here.
Image result for bliss fabulip treatment
Bliss Fabulips Treatment: I received this lip treatment kit for Christmas last year and I'm still so obsessed with it. I use it at least once a week and especially before I apply any type of lip color. This treatment makes my lips so soft, moisturized, and makes lipstick go on so smoothly.
Image result for fresh sugar lip balm rose
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose: This is my all-time favorite beauty product in the world, and ever since I got my first balm, I go through them like crazy! I know that the price is a little steep for lip balm, but there's nothing else that is nearly as good as this one. I have never had anything moisturize like this and leave my lips looking so  healthy. The sheer rose color is just a plus, and there are so many different color tints available. Also, Fresh has tons of other lip products that I've only heard good things about, and they can only be found at Sephora.

A special thank you Matt David Photography for the awesome photo!

Going For Gingham

The Ionia Free Fair is always a stop for my friends and I, year after year. Not only do we enjoy people watching, but the deep-fried, greasy food is the biggest attraction for me. Every year I try a different fried dish that I couldn't get anywhere else but the fair. Last year, I chose deep-fried Oreos, and this year, we shared deep-fried cookie dough along with a giant deep-fried s'more. I'm not going to let myself look up any recipes because that could be dangerous.

Anyway, I thought that this dress would be perfect for my local fair look. I picked up this gingham dress during my trip to the Somerset Mall at the Anthropologie store. Gingham is my go-to pattern because it's timeless and great for all seasons. My closet is at least one-third gingham. This dress is now sold out, but I linked a similar one at the end of this post.

Enjoy!

When Life Gives You Lemons

Fruity prints, like lemons and pineapples, have definitely caught my eye this summer. I think they are so summery and whimsical that I had to get in on the fun. I picked up this lemon sweater shell at the J. Crew in the Somerset Collection recently and couldn't wait to tuck it into these chambray bow shorts that go with everything in my closet. I was on the fence about purchasing the shorts because they can only be worn for the short summer season, but I'm glad I did- I've worn them out shopping, over swimsuits, and even dressed them up for a night out. The look that I put together below would be perfect for a casual day, running errands, or almost any relaxing summer event.

One topic I also wanted to draw attention to today is one of my favorite things- jewelry! I wear the same three rings in almost every blog post, and I get asked questions about them often. They are all from Pandora, my favorite stop for jewelry. I believe that all of them are still currently sold and in stock both online and in most stores.  One thing that I absolutely love about Pandora is their rose gold, it is both pretty and durable! The picture below shows both rose gold rings that I wear all of the time and that go so well with my Caravelle rose gold watch. Also, the gold necklace I wear every day,  in all of my blog posts, and get asked tons of questions about was actually passed down to me from my mom. I love how the gold chain is so delicate, and the diamond pendant gives any outfit the right amount of sparkle. A simple and small gold necklace is a great option for ladies who want one classic necklace to wear day after day.

Enjoy!

Saugatuck, MI

This past weekend, Josh and I headed to Saugatuck for a much-needed day relaxing on the beach. I am always reminded of how beautiful Michigan is every time I head to the west or north in the mitten, and Saugatuck Dunes State Park was no disappointment! Our first plan was to head to Oval Beach in Saugatuck because there's no hike to the beach, like at Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Unfortunately, the parking was full and the line of cars was down the street, so if you have beach plans in Saugatuck, make sure to arrive at Oval Beach by at least 10:00. Once we made it to the State Park, the 15 minute walk through the woods made the beach that much sweeter. We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and enjoying the surprisingly warm Lake Michigan water.

After getting plenty of sun, we headed into downtown Saugatuck to eat and explore the little shops. We ended up eating on the water at the Butler, next to a marina where we ended up snapping a few photos. We ended our long day with a walk around the marina and treating ourselves to Kilwin's ice cream, which was absolutely amazing.

Outfit details are linked below, enjoy!

Tied Together With a Bow

It's no secret, I love a good bow. They are my favorite detail that adds a touch of class and femininity to any outfit. I loved this dress when I first saw it in stores, and after trying it on, I was smitten. A comfy silhouette and pockets are my must-haves for dresses. Also, a great dress is one that can be dressed up or down for almost any occasion. The look I styled below is more dressed up, and could be worn for work or dressier events, but when paired with simple flats and a cardigan, this dress feels more like running errands and grabbing lunch with friends. For outfit details and bow-detailed pieces, check out the links below.

Enjoy!
