My Workout Wear

As of this past September, I've started taking my fitness goals more seriously. I joined a gym that I love after realizing that attempting to work out at home just wasn't doing much for me. Personally, I have much better and more effective workouts in the gym setting where I'm surrounded by people who are working towards similar goals. The other most motivating key to my fitness routine is cute workout wear, unsurprisingly. My favorite athletic brand is Lululemon- I find that their gear actually works, fits me well, and stays nice wash after wash. Zella is a comparable brand that I also love and can be found at Nordstrom. I mostly wear leggings when I workout, as opposed to shorts, as Lululemon and Zella both carry great options.

I'm super picky when it comes to what shoes I'm going to wear depending on the type of workout. Although I'm not a die-hard runner, I look for shoes that will be supportive for my couple runs a week, but also work well for weight training and spin class. I've had good Nikes in the past, but a few months ago, I discovered APL shoes and read so many great reviews from all types of athletes. Their line with Lululemon is absolutely beautiful- definitely a great option if you're looking for a new sneaker to try!

Sweater Weather

One of my biggest resolutions for 2018 is to "stop and smell the roses more," if you will. For me, this means being more mindful of the present and stop worrying about future things that are out of my control. Spending a little time doing things that maybe aren't the most productive honestly help me be more productive on most of my days that are preoccupied with many responsibilities and little time to relax. If I take some time on the weekend to reconnect with friends, go someplace new, or just take some time to do nothing but try out a new face mask, I find it easier to power through those busiest days. Overall, I am working towards a productive, but happy, 2018.

This past weekend, my closest girlfriends and I took an afternoon to explore the shopping scene of Grand Rapids. We like to do this every few months, but the holiday season was just too busy. We only made it to two shopping centers, Tanger Outlets and Rivertown Crossings, but it was enough to tire us out. My best finds were at Kate Spade in Byron Center- that store is always my weakness. They were having quite the after-Christmas sale, so I picked up a wine colored handbag and a pretty floral top. I'm looking forward to featuring both on the blog shortly.

My shopping trip attire included this slouchy sweater by Free People. I purchased it after reading such amazing reviews by customers and wanting to try it out for myself. It was sold out on many websites, including the Free people site itself, so the only place I found it at was Macy's. They have a surprising amount of sizes and color options left. As for sizing, I went with my normal size, which worked because the style is meant to be oversized, but I definitely could've gone down one size. I paired it with my comfy distressed jeans, which are on major sale right now. My feet are currently suffering due to my recent fabulous but uncomfortable shoe choices, so I chose to wear my broken-in Uggs (not my first choice, but sensible for all of walking while shopping). I topped off the look with my gold earrings, which are surprisingly lightweight, and my neutral Kate Spade bag.

Winter Wonderland

Happy New Year! I cannot wait to see what this new year brings, as there were many surprises and great times in 2017. Most excitingly, I created Clothes With Ellie Rose and started to share my passion for all things fashion, and I will happily continue doing so this year.

As always, this winter has surely been a snowy one, and I've found the cutest and warmest cold weather gear to keep you cozy all winter long. As I'm someone who is chronically cold year-round, the harsh Michigan winters sometimes feel unbearable, especially with the subzero temperatures recently. My Canada Goose parka has kept me snug as a bug this winter, and I'm loving this deep green color. It's definitely a way to stand out in the sea of black winter coats without being too bright. My Canada Goose is from Moosejaw, as I've found their customer service to be unparalleled, which is important when making a big purchase. Another benefit of shopping with Moosejaw is their automatic 10% cash back to spend in the store, with many promotions of 30% back in store credit throughout the year. Overall, I've never had a better or warmer experience with any other winter coat I've ever owned.

Also purchased from Moosejaw, my Sorel Boots are another winter favorite that I've been wearing on repeat. My exact boots are sold out, but there are other colors on sale here and the shorter version here. I love mine because they go almost all of my winter wardrobe, and they keep my feet super warm. Sorel has tons of winter boot options ranging from shearling-lined to fur-lined in many different color and style options. If you're still on the hunt for warm winter boots, check them out. And as the end of the season approaches, I'm sure many Sorel styles will be marked down, so it's a great time to find your next-winter boots at a fraction of the price.

I topped off this look with my black pom-pom hat and gingham scarf, both purchased earlier this season from J. Crew. My scarf is actually a cape scarf, but I usually don't wear it as a cape. I like using cape scarves because they are more full and cozy as opposed to most regular scarves. I wear this hat all of the time, but I also have my eye on this one and this one.

My Christmas Dress

Every year, I love to pick out one special Christmas outfit, usually a dress or skirt. Plaid is my very favorite way to be festive, and this black watch plaid dress is no exception. It is not too dressy, but still feels holiday and is fun to wear (especially the pockets). My cozy cable knit cardigan is actually borrowed from the men's section, and I threw it on for extra warmth at one of my Christmas parties. I topped it off with my classic black cocoon coat for a dressier look. Lately, I've been wearing my over the knee boots everywhere because I'm not worried about getting the suede wet in the snow since it's waterproof. Practical yet stylish is my favorite combination.
