Polka Dots and Pearls

The summer has flown by and now I'm ready to start transitioning my wardrobe into fall. The colder months are my favorite to dress for because I love layering and cozy looks. But today, I'm sharing a transitional outfit that can work for this awkward late summer/early fall weather. This outfit is super easy to duplicate with classic essentials, like a basic button-up, statement necklace, darker denim, and flats that are a pop of color. I added my own little twist to this tried-and-true outfit formula with a leopard belt, tortoise sunnies, and bold red lips. I encourage you to make your own easy go-to outfit that is timeless and appropriate for almost any occasion.

Outfit details are linked below. Enjoy!

Late Summer Flowers

It's sad to say, but summer (at least for students like me) is coming to a close. Although I'm excited to start getting some classes out of the way, I'll miss my more carefree summer days. So, I rounded up my favorite and most summery outfit for this post. This Liberty of London floral skirt is a statement piece that I paired with my scallop eyelet crop top (the white version was in last week's post). I wore my favorite shimmery espadrille wedges that are now on sale. Outfit details are linked at the end of the post.

Enjoy!

The Seaside Pant

I had to make it out to the beach at least one more time this summer. Life has been so crazy busy that I feel like I haven't crossed hardly anything off of my summer bucket list, but I made sure that I visit Lake Michigan more than just once. And since Grand Haven's pier is closed this summer, I definitely wanted to visit Holland's state park because the prettiest lighthouse sits on the beach, and I made sure to include in some of the photos below.

It's hard to come across a great pair of summer pants that are both wearable and cute. Summer in Michigan is often time too hot for pants, but the seaside pants are super light and comfy and can be worn all throughout summer. I wore mine out to dinner and for an evening walk on the beach in Holland. I've worn the chambray pair so much that I had to get the lilac color as well. The thing I love about the seaside pants the most is that I can throw them on with a comfy striped tee and still feel put together while running errands on a lazy day.

Enjoy!

East Grand Rapids, MI

This may be the only crop top you will catch me wearing. I do love the trend, but it has been a long and hard search to find a crop top that fits me and my wardrobe well. The eyelet and scalloped edges of this top are were too cute to resist. I didn't realize until after purchasing it, but there are buttons all the way down the back that are so pretty and help with putting it on over my head. The crop top is detailed yet goes with so many skirts and other high-waisted bottoms. I actually will be posting another outfit with this same crop top that shows how to dress it up for more fancy events, so check back next week for more ideas!

The day of this photoshoot was super fun and in a new location for me. Josh and I took the afternoon to head out to explore East Grand Rapids. We knew that we had to try Rose's on Reeds Lake after hearing how delicious it was from so many people, and it did not disappoint! I should have taken a picture of our plates, but we dug right in the moment they were served. If you are ever in the area, I definitely recommend it. After a late lunch, we spent the rest of the afternoon adventuring around the city, taking a few photos, and running some errands.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that I am getting out of my comfort zone and joining a gym this month. I will for sure stand out as a newbie, but I'm really looking forward to reaching my fitness goals. Finding cute workout gear is also becoming a priority, and I think an activewear blog post would be fun to mix it up. I will search high and low for the best rated and prettiest gym clothes to share with you all, so stay tuned for a new type of blog post!

Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Three Ways to Style a Rose Gold Sequin Skirt

Usually, it's hard to work a statement piece into my wardrobe. It's either that I have no place to wear that special something, or that nothing in my closet goes with it. To solve this issue, I styled my rose gold pencil skirt three different ways that are appropriate for different types of occasions.

This sequin skirt was a new arrival at J. Crew that I absolutely loved, but was skeptical about purchasing because it seemed too fancy for my wardrobe. After trying it on, I was smitten, but beware, I sized down two whole sizes because it runs so big! I originally purchased it for the holidays like Christmas and New Years Eve when sequin pieces are the most appropriate. I still am planning on tucking a black turtleneck into the skirt, pairing it with statement earrings and black suede pumps. The looks pictured below are for wearing this skirt now, and not only saving it for the holidays.

The first look is more casual but still elevated. I paired the skirt with a tied-up chambray shirt (I tied up the shirt to avoid looking lumpy), statement earrings, and neutral suede pumps. I would wear this outfit to work or a date night and could switch out the pumps for sandals to make this look more casual.

The second way I styled this skirt is appropriate for work. I tucked a tiger graphic tee (it says "stripes are always in style" in French) into the skirt and added a blazer to finish off the look. I kept the same pumps for this wear-to-work look.

The third look I created with this rose gold skirt is a casual look that is good for doing almost anything in. I'm planning on wearing this outfit out shopping, going places with friends, and any casual-but-elevated event. I kept the same tiger t-shirt tucked in and added a cropped denim jacket with cute gold sneakers.
